A Wild Year of Events

So, it has been FOREVER since I have written a blog post!  It's amazing how quickly life passes by when you're not thinking about it.  Lots of exciting things have happened since the last post so I guess I'll go through a couple of those first.

Last August we moved into a new home!  YAY!!!  Some of you may know that my husband and I, along with FOUR kids, were living in a small two bedroom condo that we bought shortly after we were married.  It was perfect for the two of us and it continued to meet our needs even after the birth of #1 and #2.  But... as our family grew to include #3 and #4 it became, can I say, a nightmare!  We had three children in one small bedroom and a baby in our room.  Did I mention that The Buttercup Basket had exploded all over the living room, dining room, and Master bedroom.  After several offers on homes and 18 months of waiting we finally moved to our new home-- complete with an office that is now the official Buttercup room!

Here's the house! #3 just had to sneak into my photo:)  If you look closely you can see the variation in trim color.  My husband's been working on replacing all of the trim and painting it white.  I like the white SO much more than the cream.  He's done tons of landscaping too.  See that big bare spot of ground?  Yeah, that used to be a tree.  We're so glad it's gone-- it was HUGE!!!

The Buttercup Room!  It's complete with yarn, fabric, and more yarn.  I think I see an umbrella in there too:)

The floor is still unfinished in this room but we will soon put in hardwood.  I'm so excited!
There's also a peek of the Fourth of July patchwork skirt that I never got around to photographing or listing in the shop.

A closer shot of that skirt.

Now for the reason that I never got around to listing that skirt...  PREGNANCY!!  Oh, my, was it tough this time around.  Maybe it's age. maybe it's the fact that I had FOUR other children to take care-- I'm not sure what the reason was but #5 was the hardest to carry.  After being very ill for the first 4 to 5 months and then having "excruciating, can't sleep, I want to crawl into a hole and die" pain in my ribs and abdomen (which still has an unknown cause) I didn't think I was going to make it though nine months.  But when they placed that sweet baby in my arms it really was worth all of the agony.  I'm not saying that I want to do it again, I'm just saying that he is the sweetest little thing ever and I can't imagine not having him as part of our family.

So here he is.  Doesn't he just make you want to cuddle and kiss him?  Love him!

On top of all that everyday life stuff, like:  #1 going to First Grade, #2 going to Kindergarten, #3 being potty trained and turning to that all so wonderful age of THREE  (Is it just me or is 3 far worse than 2?), and #4 being into EVERYTHING, that's how things have been around here.  Busy!  And we love it-- It truly is a WONDERFUL life.

The Buttercup Basket has been put on the back burner for a bit but it's going to get hot again really soon.  I have some new ideas like monthly giveaways, some simple pattern posts for those that want to learn to crochet some quick projects, new pattern listings in the shop, and the best part-- a Monthly Newsletter.  I'm really excited about that last one.  If you'd like to be added to the email newsletter list please either comment with your email address OR send me a quick email at thebuttercupbasket@gmail.com.  I'm hoping to get the first one out in August.

I want to thank all of you that contribute to the success of The Buttercup Basket.  I feel so fortunate to be able to stay home with my kids while running this little business.  It is rewarding on so many levels and you are a large part of that reward.  Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

And don't forget to sign up for that NEWSLETTER--It's going to be so much fun!

GIVEAWAY! GIVEAWAY! GIVEAWAY!

OK, I know it has been a super long time since we’ve had a giveaway.  I must apologize for that.  In fact, I don’t think we have had one since I had my fourth baby…. And now she is 6 months old.  Wow!  It has been too long.  So let’s have one!

Before I get started on the details of the giveaway, let me tell you a little bit about my sweet friend, Barb.  I first met Barb at a church youth group activity.  We had both been asked to teach the 12 and 13 year old girls together.  (I love those girls; they’re still so innocent at that age.)  I had been working on a little quilt with the girls before Barb moved to Stafford from American Samoa.  Let’s just say that I am not a quilter.  I have tried a little bit and I’ve made a couple of little things for my kiddos but that’s the extent of it.  However, I do own a rotary cutter and mat- but I use it to cut fabric more for girl’s dresses than anything else.  Barb, had called me briefly before the start of the mid- week activity to ask me if she needed to bring anything.  It was then that I learned she is a quilter.  Well, it wasn’t for a few weeks after the activity that I learned just what a quilter she is!  She does BEAUTIFUL work!!!  She is so talented and one of these days I am going to have her teach me some of her wonderful talent.  She is such a fun and gracious person and I am so blessed to call her friend.

Now, on to the giveaway!  My same sweet friend is hosting The Buttercup Basket giveaway on her blog.  What a great place for a giveaway, right?  I hope you will all take a few minutes to browse her blog and admire her beautiful work.  And if any of you are quilters you may get some great ideas.  I highly recommend that you follow Barb’s blog, too.  She has such a fun personality and great sense of humor-  I know you will LOVE her posts even if you aren’t a quilter.

So, hurry on over to Bejeweled Quilts by Barb and participate in the giveaway.  The winner takes a $35 gift certificate to my shop!
